Java Thread Runner

a Java race demo rebuilt for the browser

A small Java race demo rebuilt as a web app with a Spring Boot backend and a Windows 98-inspired frontend.

Problem

I wanted to preserve the original Java/Swing race demo while making it easier to run and share in a browser.

Solution

Kept the original desktop source in the repo and added a Spring Boot version with a race engine, in-memory state, and REST endpoints for create/start/restart/get race state. The frontend is served by Spring Boot, polls the API for race updates, uses the original runner asset, and adds a Windows 98-style UI with a few easter eggs.

Impact

Shows the same race concept in a more shareable web format. Current limitation: race state is in memory only, and GitHub Pages cannot run the Spring Boot backend by itself.
